چکیده

Albeit strictly controlled in immune function and in ontogenesis, autoimmunity may develop upon inflammatory response to pathogens, with harmful consequences to host. Findings of autoimmune-like responses, observed in HIVinfected patients, might play a key role in modulating the natural history of the infection and/or could even confer protection to HIV. This paper will focus on a special class of auto-antibodies observed in HIV exposure, anti-CCR5 IgG and IgA and on their protective potential.

Frequency of CCR5?32 Variant in North-West of Iran

Chemokine and chemokine receptors show several variations which may affect resistance to infectious disease. A 32 base pair deletion in the open reading frame of the human CCR5 gene (CCR5?32) results in producing a truncated antigen which fails to be presented on the surface of target cells. CCR5?32 variant is not a functional co receptor for HIV-1 entrance and delay the onset of acquired immun...

Distribution of the mutated delta 32 allele of CCR5 co-receptor gene in Iranian population

Background :The CCR5 is a chemokine receptor that serves as a co-receptor for HIV-1 attachment and entry to T lymphocytes. A 32bp deletion (∆32) in this gene is believed to be associated with resistance to infection and delay disease progression. The aim of this study was to determine the ∆32 allele frequency in healthy individuals and HIV-infected individuals with AIDS.   Methods : In this e...

HIV-1 escape from a small molecule, CCR5-specific entry inhibitor does not involve CXCR4 use.

To study HIV-1 escape from a coreceptor antagonist, the R5 primary isolate CC1/85 was passaged in peripheral blood mononuclear cells with increasing concentrations of the CCR5-specific small molecule inhibitor, AD101. By 19 passages, an escape mutant emerged with a >20,000-fold resistance to AD101. This virus was cross-resistant to a related inhibitor, SCH-C, and partially resistant to RANTES b...

بررسی فراوانی موتاسیون آللی CCR5Δ32 در افراد سالم استان زنجان

Background and Objective: CCR5 is known as a main co-receptor in HIV infection. Many studies demonstrated that 32bp deletion in both CCR5 alleles provide natural resistance to HIV infection, so new treatment approaches are based on inducing this resistance by means of gene and cell therapies. This projects aim was the discovery of suitable candidates for new therapeutic strategies in addition t...

CCR5: From Natural Resistance to a New Anti-HIV Strategy

The C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5) is a key player in HIV infection due to its major involvement in the infection process. Investigations into the role of the CCR5 coreceptor first focused on its binding to the virus and the molecular mechanisms leading to the entry and spread of HIV. The identification of naturally occurring CCR5 mutations has allowed scientists to address the CCR5 molec...
